Most financial aid is awarded on the basis of financial need. Need is the difference between your cost of education (educational expenses such as tuition, fees, room, board, books, supplies, etc.) and the amount you and your family contribute toward your education. You may be eligible for financial assistance and not realize it.
How To Apply
To apply for the type of financial aid at Charlotte Technical College, students must first complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). This can be done online at http://www.fafsa.ed.gov/
Check out the “How to Fill Out the FAFSA” video for helpful info on filling out the FAFSA.
The earlier you apply the better, as all students must meet with the Financial Aid Specialist before receiving any financial aid.
Before you begin the FAFSA, you will need to gather certain documents. If you are a dependent student you will also need the following documents from your parents:
- Federal income tax transcripts.
- W-2 forms.
- Records of untaxed benefits received.
- Current bank statements.
- Records of other savings and investments, such as stocks, bonds, and mutual funds.
There is a free worksheet on the FAFSA site that you may download to get you started in the process.
The links provided at the bottom of this page are great sources of information.
To qualify for financial aid you must have a high school transcript which states you have graduated with a standard diploma or a GED.
After you receive an email back from the federal government, please call the Financial Aid Office for guidance through the next step.
